Malta Trash Hunt 2024 – Terms and Conditions

Thank you for your interest in participating in the Malta Trash Hunt 2024. You agree to the following terms and conditions by registering for this event. Please read carefully before proceeding with your registration.


1. Participation and Liability

1.1 Voluntary Participation:
By signing up for the Malta Trash Hunt 2024, you acknowledge that you voluntarily participate in the event, which involves physical activities such as land and underwater cleanups. These activities may carry inherent risks, including but not limited to personal injury, property damage, or loss.

1.2 Assumption of Risk:
All participants, including but not limited to divers, snorkelers, freedivers, kayakers, and land volunteers, accept full responsibility for their own safety and well-being during the event. You acknowledge that participating in this event may involve risks such as slips, trips, falls, water-related injuries, or other unforeseen hazards.

1.3 Release of Liability:
The Malta Trash Hunt Team, event organisers, partners, sponsors, and associated parties (including but not limited to the Sliema Local Council, the Alfred Mizzi Foundation, PADI AWARE, and any other supporting organisations) will not be held liable for any injuries, accidents, or damages incurred during the event. By registering, you agree to release and hold harmless all event organisers from any and all liability.

1.4 Loss of Property:
Participants are responsible for their own belongings during the event. The Malta Trash Hunt Team is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to personal property or valuables during the event.


2. Event Purpose and Proceeds

2.1 Non-Profit Event:
The Malta Trash Hunt 2024 is a non-profit event organised for the purpose of raising awareness and funds for environmental conservation. All proceeds from the event will go directly towards local environmental conservation efforts and support PADI AWARE‘s global initiatives.

2.2 Fundraising Objective:
The primary objective of this event is to raise funds to support environmental initiatives aimed at reducing pollution and promoting sustainability. The Malta Trash Hunt Team and its partners do not profit financially from this event, and all proceeds will be used for conservation purposes.


3. Registration and Participation

3.1 Registration Confirmation:
All participants must complete the registration form and agree to these terms and conditions before participating in the event. Your registration will be confirmed once you have accepted the terms and provided all necessary information.

3.2 Participation Requirements:

  • Divers: You must hold a valid diving certification and provide proof of certification during registration. You are also responsible for bringing any necessary diving equipment unless otherwise specified.
  • Freedivers, Snorkelers, and Kayakers: You must ensure that you are physically capable of participating in water-based activities and are responsible for your own safety.
  • Land Volunteers: You are responsible for following the instructions provided by event coordinators and using any supplied equipment (gloves, bags, etc.) responsibly.

3.3 Age Requirement:
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must also sign the waiver on behalf of the minor.


4. Event Cancellation or Modification

4.1 Weather Conditions:
In the event of severe weather or any unforeseen circumstances that may affect the safety of participants, the Malta Trash Hunt Team reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event. Participants will be notified via email or the event website as soon as possible.

4.2 Refund Policy:
As this is a non-profit fundraising event, any donations or fees paid towards certifications (e.g., PADI AWARE certifications) are non-refundable.


5. Media and Photography

5.1 Media Consent:
By participating in the Malta Trash Hunt 2024, you consent to being photographed or filmed during the event. The Malta Trash Hunt Team reserves the right to use any photographs, videos, or media taken during the event for promotional purposes.


6. Code of Conduct

6.1 Responsible Behaviour:
All participants are expected to behave respectfully and responsibly during the event. Littering, reckless behaviour, or any actions that may harm the environment or other participants will not be tolerated.

6.2 Environmental Respect:
Participants agree to follow all environmental guidelines set out by the event coordinators. The event aims to reduce pollution and support sustainability, so please ensure that your actions contribute positively to these goals.
